Case study: a system dedicated to the assembly of industrial valves
Our Partners
SINTA is an Italian company specializing in the distribution of components for industrial automation and robotics, with over 20 years of experience in the market.
Their automation components are aimed at all industrial sectors: automotive, electronics, mechanics, packaging, food, cosmetics, medical etc
Nexus Automation offers companies customized, integrated and innovative industrial automation solutions, capable of improving efficiency, quality and competitiveness. the company proposes itself as a strategic primary partner to guide customers towards a smarter and more customer-oriented production future.
The Challenge
- Managing different valve body geometries: The valve bodies represented the most critical components of the process due to their different shapes and dimensions
- Ensuring accurate robotic handling:Each component had to be recognized in terms of position, orientation and model so that the robot could pick it correctly and guarantee the precision required.
- Maintaining production flexibility: The customer required a single automated line capable of handling multiple valve variants while avoiding complex mechanical tooling and lengthy format changeovers.
The Solution
- Flexible feeding with FlexiBowl®500: two backlit FlexiBowl® 500 units feed the valve bodies, while dedicated feeding systems manage springs and O-rings, ensuring a continuous and reliable supply of all components.
- Vision-guided robotic picking: two Epson robots, supported by the Epson vision system, identify the exact position and orientation of each valve body. According to the detected model, the robot automatically adjusts its gripping angle before picking the part.
- High-precision assemble: after picking, a self-centering gripping system compensates for any residual positioning error, ensuring the accuracy required for a reliable assembly process across all valve variants.
The Benefits
- Consistent production performance: the automated line achieves a throughput of approximately 8ppm complete valves per minute, combining speed with reliable assembly quality.
- Automatic management of multiple variants: different valve models are handled within the same production process, eliminating the need for dedicated feeding systems or time-consuming format changes.
- Reliable and flexible automation: the combination of FlexiBowl®, vision guidance and robotics delivers accurate positioning, automatic adaptation to different geometries and the flexibility needed for high-mix manufacturing.
- Reduced positioning errors: any residual positioning error is automatically compensated before assembly, ensuring consistent accuracy.
